This is a unique opportunity to join a new business inside of Valiant Labs, our client's digital incubator. Valiant Labs is exploring a digital product platform that uses data generated by connected products. In support of that mission, we are seeking an experienced Applied Athlete Coaching Expert to connect the dots between sports science, data, and sound coaching recommendations.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in deriving, analyzing, and interpreting a variety of complex wearable technology-driven data streams to inform training regimens and human/product interactions. The Applied Athlete Coaching Expert will be adept at working collaboratively with data scientists, AI/Client engineers, sports scientists, user researchers, product managers, UX/UI designers, and hardware engineers. Fluency across disciplines related to biomechanics, kinematics, and sports science is key. This person will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team navigating a matrixed organization and generating insights to support product development.

Responsibilities

• 
  
• Lead implementation of coaching techniques, sports science principles, and kinematics models for a new connected product
  
• Analyze data generated by sensors during sport activity
  
• Work collaboratively to create systems to quantify athlete performance based on collected and inferred data
  
• Integrate data with models and machine learning techniques to develop advanced algorithms that can accurately coach athlete progress
  
• Develop contextualized feature sets and product cases using sports specific domain knowledge, data, and AI/Client systems
  
• Apply sound coaching methods to investigate how activity and exertion affect athletic performance
  
• Engage with product, research, sports science and data science teams to make informed decisions based on user feedback, user research, and data insights to establish a stack ranked product backlog
  
• Lead development and presentation of coaching briefings and functional demos to internal stakeholders
  
• Incorporate research, industry white papers, and internal expertise into sound coaching innovation
  
  
  Preferred Expertise
  
  
  • 
    
  • Master s Degree in a related field which may include kinesiology, athletic training, exercise science, exercise physiology, biomechanics, or other hard sciences
    
  • Experience in using wearable technologies to quantify human motion/performance and its utilization in program design (i.e. GPS, sensors, biomechanical assessments)
    
  • Demonstrated experience in product development processes and associated frameworks
    
  • Effective leadership skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of professionals, including engineers, data scientists, coaches, designers, and product managers
    
  • Clear, concise, actionable communication of coaching regimens to product development teams and cross-functional audiences
    
  • Familiar with a wide range of biomechanics measurement tools including but not limited to 3D motion capture, inertial measurement units (IMU), force/pressure measurements, and musculoskeletal modeling
    
  • Expertise in model development, analyzing data, communicating actionable insights, and facilitating collaboration with cross-functional research teams
    
  • Experience in hardware and data-centric product development
    
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methodologies including Agile
