homelessness with affordable and supportive housing,
person-centered health care, addiction recovery and employment
assistance. By providing health care, housing and jobs, CCC is
ending homelessness in Portland and helping people achieve their
highest potential.
CCC's Community Engagement Program is seeking a Peer Support
Specialist to join our team!
Pay rate: $20.60/hr (as of 12/20/22)
Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm for first 90
days. After 90 days, one alternative work day will be available in
a 9-hour shift.
The Peer Support Specialist provides a variety of recovery-oriented
services to individuals who have self-identified as desiring peer
supports, in order to promote greater independence, community
integration and recovery from mental illness and/or addiction.
Services provided by peers (people in addiction recovery or with
co-occurring mental health disorders) include a wide range of
supports, services, and advocacy that contribute to a client's
ability to engage in ongoing treatment.
The Successful Candidate:
You are a skilled relationship-builder and can partner
collaboratively with internal care teams and outreach partners to
ensure clients are receiving the care they need. You are passionate
about ensuring your relationships with clients and program staff
are strong and built on trust. You are able to learn how to
intervene in crises in a clinically and culturally appropriate way.
You are able to consider the impacts of structural racism,
oppression, and individual bias when making decisions.
Duties to Include:
- Work with clients to identify wellness and recovery goals.
- Exemplifies recovery principles in order to show by example
that recovery is possible and attainable. Share their own recovery
story as appropriate, and walks the road of recovery alongside the
service recipient.
- Work with peers on specific objectives in conjunction with the
case manager and the client's ISSP.
- Attend and positively participate in required team, agency, and
interdisciplinary meetings.
- Coordinate and consult with other team members to keep team
informed of issues and progress
- Ensure timely completion of all required paperwork.
- Work to increase level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and
competency regarding Person Centered and Peer Delivered
Services.
- Document all peer contact at time of service.
- Educate and advocate for the values and principles of the
Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment Model, including emphasis on
Stages of Change intervention strategies.
- Work with Clinical Supervisor to develop and support new
programming
- Receive regular weekly supervision from the Clinical
Supervisor, seeking additional supervision whenever necessary.
Minimum requirement two hours of documented supervision per
month.
- Support clients in achieving housing stability, including, but
not limited to assistance with moving in, obtaining linens, dishes,
food boxes, and clothing. Priority will be given to clients moving
directly from Hooper to ADFC housing through the Challenge
Program.
- Support clients in establishing community integration,
including, but not limited to accessing recovery meetings,
faith-based support, clean and sober recreation, etc., in their
neighborhoods.
- May carry a small caseload of clients who are no longer in need
of intensive services, but have not yet established adequate
community support to graduate.
- Facilitate activity groups at the Client Center.
- Coordinate pro-social activities in the community on at least a
monthly basis.
- Provide support with transporting identified clients from their
homes to the office for groups, individual sessions or other
appointments in the community. Assist in developing skills with
public transportation as appropriate.
Requirements:
- Must be a self-identified person in recovery from a substance
use or co-occurring mental health disorder, who meets the
abstinence requirements for recovery staff in alcohol and other
drug treatment programs.
- Must be registered with Traditional Health Workers
Registry.
- Must be certified by an AMH approved training as Peer
Specialist at time of hire.
- Must meet CCC privileging requirements as required by
FTCA.
- Must be able to provide peer delivered services as described in
Medicaid guidelines.
- If in recovery, must be able to document continuous abstinence
under independent living conditions or recovery housing for the
immediate past two years.
- Must possess a current driver's license , access to a vehicle,
qualify as an Acceptable Driver as designated in Central City
Concern's Fleet Safety policy. Must pass an initial drivers
training within 60 days of being an approved driver and continued
recertification training. Must maintain vehicle insurance coverage
of a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 personal auto liability
coverage.
- Must generally have the ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel,
squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects, and climb stairs
with reasonable or no accommodation.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test, and background
check. This includes clearance by the DHS Background Check
Unit.
- The OAR prohibits A&D program staff from having within the
previous 3 years a DUI conviction or diversion, a felony
conviction, or a conviction under the Uniform Controlled Substances
Act.
