Blackburn Center is looking for hire a Peer Support Specialist!

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8-4:30 or Monday-Friday 11-8:30 (ability to flex schedule to take clients to meetings in the evenings).

The Blackburn Center is an innovative program that will offer integrated housing, health care, and employment services with the long term goal of eliminating homelessness. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will provide recovery-oriented based services to individuals on the Portland Eastside community who have self-identified as desiring peer support, community integration and recovery-based relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exemplifies recovery principles in order to show by example that recovery is possible and attainable. Share their own recovery story as appropriate, and walks the road of recovery alongside the service recipient.
  • Adhere to the key principles of the Blackburn team: monitor for disruptive behaviors, engage positively with members and model recover-based relationships, while fulfilling the different duties in the day-to-day operation.
  • Work with peers on specific objectives in conjunction with the client's case manager and/or counselor.
  • Actively participate in programming development, including but not limited to: peer-led healing and recovery groups, routine events throughout the year and more.
  • Work with Program Coordinator to develop and support new and ongoing programming.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with clients, staff, and other community resources.
  • Educate and advocate for the values and principles of the Recovery Model in the Blackburn Center, with staff and with clients.
  • Work to increase level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency regarding Person Centered and Peer Delivered Services.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • GED or High school Diploma or ability to obtain within one year required.
    • PSS I Requires: Certified Recovery Mentor or Peer Support Specialist certification
    • PSS II Requires: Certified Recovery Mentor or Peer Support Specialist and a minimum of 1 year experience working as a certified Peer Support Specialist.
    • Must be a self-identified person in recovery from a substance use or co-occurring mental health disorder or "lived" personal experience leading to an understanding of the needs of persons with substance abuse and mental health issues.

      • Must meet CCC privileging requirements as required by FTCA.
      • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB Test, and DHS background check.
      • The OAR prohibits A&D program staff from having within the previous 3 years a DUI conviction or diversion, a felony conviction, or a conviction under the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
      • Must possess a current driver's license, access to a vehicle, qualify as an Acceptable Driver as designated in Central City Concern's Fleet Safety policy. Must pass an initial drivers training within 60 days of being an approved driver and continued recertification training. Must maintain vehicle insurance coverage of a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 personal auto liability coverage.
