WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR We're looking for a Lead Firmware QA Engineer for the Nike Smart Systems team. We are looking for someone to join the team who will be responsible for the qualification of innovative consumer electronics products that help make athletes better. They will assist in the test and validation of a robust firmware platform by designing efficient, testable, and scalable code to enable outstanding athlete product experiences. The successful candidate will have validated industry experience driving quality into the software/firmware system architecture, from initial prototypes to production code. WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON In this role, you will be working with the internal and Nike Smart Systems firmware, software, and algorithm teams; as well as partner organizations. You will be using deep knowledge of embedded systems test methodology to help design systems for testability, build product test plans that will cover the ecosystem from microcontroller, to mobile, to the cloud. A typical day will involve leading others in architecture design reviews focusing on designing in quality, detailing test approaches, planning and executing test automation for multiple products, writing code at the unit, subsystem, and system test levels across embedded and mobile (iOS and Android), triaging test failures, and reporting out meaningful quality metrics. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH You will collaborate with the Director of Firmware and Software Engineering for Nike Smart Systems and partner closely with all QA resources, providing technical leadership and direction. You will help drive the future test automation architecture, defining a roadmap that will scale across multiple products. Working within the Nike ecosystem, you will have the opportunity to help align testing across the stack between different engineering organizations. Your team consists of firmware, software, and algorithm engineers; and you will work multi-functionally with our electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and test and validation teams. WHAT YOU BRING

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical field; or relevant work experience.
  • Validated experience in a QA role, with an emphasis on testing embedded and mobile experiences.
  • Engage Product, Program, Engineering, and Design teams to design test strategies, guide unit and integration testing conducted by engineering teams, and compose test plans for automated, manual, and performance tests.
  • Experience in developing test plans, assessing risk, writing defects, and providing relevant data for test reporting.
  • Experience leading both internal and external resources, delivering against a product test plan.
  • Ability to build, document, and automate test plans for embedded systems in C, including unit, subsystem, and system testing; and for SDK's executing on iOS and Android.
  • Ability to quantify algorithms executing in an embedded system; both for accuracy and the overall experience delivered.
  • Experience characterizing algorithms/features across a population of target users.
  • Ability to triage test failures in the system down to the firmware versus mobile domains.
  • Detailed understanding of the software development lifecycle including test-driven development with experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration processes and test reporting capabilities.
  • Understanding of embedded firmware architecture and system design.
  • Knowledge of mobile software QA processes and methodologies for iOS and Android mobile targets.
