JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Machine Operator/Line Leader - Second Shift

DEPARTMENT: Packaging

REPORTS TO: Packaging Manager

SUMMARY: A Line Leader is responsible for having their designated machine set up, ready to run at specified times, adjusting film, changing scales, and/or machine settings, and troubleshooting common machine problems; Also responsible for overseeing employees on the line.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure designated machine set-up, ready to run at specified time at or above the minimum standard.
  • Notifies the team leader before wash down is completed.
  • Make sure machine is signed off by the team leader.
  • Pull product (truck/gondola/tote) before crew starts.
  • Bring partials to packaging area before the machine starts and returns partials at end of run to the designated area.
  • Ensures employees on the line are following Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP's).
  • Completes required documentation. Each machine and/or product may call for different types of documentation.
  • Performs count, weight, & machine checks every half hour.
  • Informs crew of required tasks.
  • Follow Specials List to ensure special codes are being packaged.
  • Place order for labels when necessary.
  • Ensure that only a minimal amount of product falls on the floor.
  • Maintains film waste).
  • Be up to date with procedure book and update crew when necessary.
  • Monitor work practices for safety. Report any safety concerns to your team leader.
  • Fill in as needed in other departments or shifts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises the crew working on the line.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees and team leader.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
