The City of Beaverton Public Works - Engineering Division is excited to announce an open position for a Senior Transportation Engineer with a Transportation Engineering focus. This position manages the city's Transportation Capital Projects Program and performs project management duties requiring expertise in the area of professional civil and transportation engineering. Public Works - Engineering plays an integral role in helping the city achieve its visioning goals. We are responsible for the delivery of quality, timely and cost-effective public infrastructure for the city, including streets, sidewalks, bike facilities, and trails; water, sewer, stormwater and other city projects as needed. In this position, the incumbent will perform a variety of engineering program and project management duties requiring expertise in the area of professional civil engineering. Practicing engineering and performing duties as defined by State law, ORS 672.005(1) and OAR 820-005-0001 respectively, are essential to perform or direct the variety of engineering activities in this role. Finally, the incumbent will provide official Professional Engineer (PE) stamp approval for project work.This is an exempt Management 2 classified position. The classification of this position is Project Engineer 2. Additional supporting documentation included with your application may not be reviewed.ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDepending upon assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties: Develop, review, approve and implement Transportation program work plans, services, policies, procedures and reports for program management. Evaluate performance and program effectiveness and take action for improvement as necessary in coordination with the Transportation System Plan (TSP).Approve designs and/or manage consultants to successfully deliver engineering projects.Mentor and train staff to ensure city goals and objectives are met. Schedule, assign and review work. Provide opportunities for developmental training and performance coaching to employees. Advise the Director, City Manager, Mayor, City Council, and Boards and Commissions on transportation engineering issues. Analyze intergovernmental agreements, ordinances and other related documents for policy implication and provide written reports. Prepare and present technical reports to City Council, Boards and Commissions.Serve as a member of the division senior management team.Serve as a City representative on intergovernmental agency committees.Prepare, recommend and monitor budget and/or capital improvement plan for the Transportation capital projects program. Provide explanation for variances. Authorize payments to contractors and consultants.Perform review of engineering plans and project submittals. Adhere to the Development Code, Engineering Standards and other regulations and requirements such as the city floodplain ordinances and Clean Water Services standards.Respond to requests for information from residents, developers, consulting engineers or staff on technical issues requiring interpretation, design modification and variances.Provide direction and set standards for excellence in internal and external customer service. They also will have a familiarity with civil and transportation engineering. The person in this role will need to be comfortable leading a diverse team of professionals in a range of disciplines. They will also be able to give presentations and work with the public and stakeholders to define and deliver capital projects.MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in engineering or related fieldTen years of civil engineering experience, including three years of experience in transportation engineering and two years of project management experience; ORA Master's Degree in a related field and eight years of civil engineering experienceValid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards.Valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering. CompensationWage Range: $7410.68 - $9929.98 monthlyWage rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act.
