Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Nursing Specialty:
Scrub Technologist, Surgical Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift:
Day Shift Hours per Shift: Between the hours of 0630 - 1500 or 0800
- 1630, Monday to Friday. No call or weekends. Experience: One or
more years of experience in a Main OR preferred. License: Graduate
of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or
ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire
required. Must-Have: Multispecialty experience: Orthopedics, GYN,
Urology, General Surgery, ENT, and Ophthalmology preferred.
Description: Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals
who are integral members of the team providing surgical care to
patients. Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a
surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical
procedures. They ensure that the operating room environment is
safe, equipment functions properly, and the procedure is conducted
under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical
Technologists are experts in asepsis and sterile technique,
combining knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
Principal Responsibilities: Participate in maintaining a culture
consistent with service and behavioral standards. Assess patient
status during pre-op interview and on a continuing basis. Provide
safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing
process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner. Document
interventions and patient responses. Ensure patient care is
provided in an organized and timely manner. Utilize nursing care
standards when planning and implementing patient care. Communicate
appropriate information regarding patient conditions to relevant
staff. Safely carry out physician orders accurately and promptly,
documenting all activities. Assist anesthesia staff as needed.
Display understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical,
emotional, and chronological maturity in assessments and care.
Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.
Maintain competencies to function in the RN role within the
specific area. Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by
identifying safety hazards and minimizing exposure. Demonstrate
expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique, and
universal precautions. Assess, anticipate, and implement
appropriate care throughout the surgical process. Perform other
duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills: Understand procedures
being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Possess
the necessary knowledge to ensure quality patient care during the
operative procedure. Maintain vigilance in maintaining the sterile
field. Ability to don OR attire and personal protective equipment
(PPE). Gather, check, and open necessary supplies and equipment for
surgical procedures. Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand
with appropriate supplies. Maintain skills in equipment usage and
troubleshooting. Prepare for additional instrumentation and
supplies as needed during the procedure. Maintain the highest
standard of sterile technique during procedures. Possess basic
clinical skills to provide patient care. Work well with providers,
clinical staff, and patients. Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced
environment while maintaining work quality. Adhere to all policies
and procedures including confidentiality, infection control,
safety, attendance, and personal appearance. Participate in quality
improvement activities. Physical Demands: The work environment is
usually moderately quiet, exposed to patient and environmental
conditions. Employees may encounter unpleasant sights, smells, and
