Department Overview
The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC or "Primate
Center") conducts world-class basic and translational biomedical
research in its five scientific divisions: Cardiometabolic Health,
Genetics, Reproductive & Developmental Sciences, Neuroscience, and
Pathobiology & Immunology. All scientific divisions work closely
with the Division of Animal Resources & Research Support (ARRS),
which oversees the care and well-being of all nonhuman primates and
other laboratory animals maintained at ONPRC. The ONPRC sponsors a
number of shared facilities that provide core services focused on
nonhuman primate research to the ONPRC and its collaborating
scientists. The Primate Center is home to over 5,000 non-human
primates and is one of seven non-human primate research facilities
in the U.S., and is one of the largest and most prestigious
centers.
The director of the ONPRC oversees research and operations for the
center, which is located at OHSU's West Campus. The West Campus
also houses the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute and a
state-of-the-art OHSU Data Center, managed by OHSU's Information
Technology Group. The director leads all strategic, functional,
administrative, and fiscal aspects of the center, in coordination
with the associate directors and division chiefs and under the
direction of the Executive Vice President and Chief Research
Officer.
