Job Description:
Who are we looking for Nike has embraced big data technologies
to enable data-driven decisions. We're looking to expand our Data
Engineering team to keep pace. As a -Data Engineer Manager, you
will work with a variety of talented Nike teammates and be a
driving force for building first-class solutions for Nike
Technology and its business partners, working on development
projects related to revenue and margin, expense management,
Payables and Receivables Analysis, and other financial analytic
constructs. What will you work on The successful candidate will
bring their proven leadership experience, their excellent
communication and relationship building skills in addition to their
current, hands-on coding skills. In this role, you will be
responsible for coaching developers to continuously elevate their
engineering skills and to deliver innovative and high-quality
solutions. You'll lead by example, promote our agile culture, and
be an advocate of new technology and development techniques. Role
responsibilities:
- Facilitate team's delivery of scalable, maintainable,
performant data engineering solutions
- Work through your teams to define/design solution options,
evaluate technical feasibility, and provide estimates on effort and
risk
- Drive the design and implementation of new data projects and
the optimization of existing solutions
- Collaborate across teams - business partners, product,
engineering, architecture, platforms - to facilitate solution
delivery
- Work with architecture and engineers to ensure quality
solutions are implemented, and engineering standard methodologies
are defined and followed
- Drive collaborative reviews of designs, code, and test
plans
- Define the team's technical roadmap and influence its
adoption
- Anticipate, identify and solve issues concerning data
management to improve data quality
- Work across teams to resolve operational & performance
issues
- Identify and remove technical bottlenecks for your engineering
teams
- Manage, mentor, and inspire the team; manage performance, goals
and development potential
- Provide guidance to team members on work items or technical
scenarios
- Evaluate potential new engineering talent Who will you work
with We are part of an agile scrum team, closely working with the
Product Manager, Engineering Manager, Scrum Masters and other team
members to deliver data and analytics capabilities to Nike's
organization. We partner with our business and other technology
solution delivery, architecture, and platform teams. What you bring
The following qualifications and technical skills will position you
well for this role:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information
Systems, Business, or related field or combination of relevant
education, experience and training
- 8+ years of experience in large-scale software development, 3+
years of data engineering experience
- 3+ years of management or team lead experience
- Consistent track record of delivering on commitments
- Ability to define/design solution options, evaluate technical
feasibility, and provide estimates on effort and risk
- Experience building positive relationships across teams and
roles: business partners, product, engineering, architecture, and
platforms
- Ability to lead, influence and communicate effectively, both
verbally and written, across teams and roles
- Solid foundation in data structures, data modeling, and data
management architectural patterns
- Expertise building distributed / cloud scalable,
high-performance data management solutions
- Expertise programming in Python, Scala, or Java
- Expertise working in a public cloud environment, particularly
AWS
- Expertise with batch processing frameworks such as Spark and
Hive
- Expertise with data warehousing concepts, SQL and SQL
Analytical functions
- Expertise with cloud warehouse tools like Snowflake
- Experience participating in key business, architectural and
technical decisions
- Experience identifying, hiring, and nurturing/mentoring
engineering talent
- Ability to identify and resolve both people and process related
issues
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, results-oriented
environment
- Practical approach to solving sophisticated problems with
ambiguous requirements The following skills and experience are also
relevant to our overall environment, and nice to have:
- Experience with messaging/streaming/complex event processing
tooling and frameworks with an emphasis on Spark Streaming or
Structured Streaming or Apache Nifi
- Ability to learn new technologies, adapt quickly, and lead a
team of highly capable engineers in solving complex problems
- Experience in Agile/Scrum application development
- Familiarity with the principles of Domain Driven Design
- Experience working with NoSQL data stores such as HBase,
DynamoDB, etc.
- Experience building RESTful API's to enable data
consumption
- Experience with build tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
and automation tools such as Jenkins or Circle CI
- Experience with practices like Continuous Development,
Continuous Integration and Automated Testing These are the

Work Option - Open to remote work, except cannot work in South
Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia. These candidates will be
required to relocate. The annual base salary for this position
ranges from $109,500 -in our lowest geographic market to $217,000
in our highest geographic market. Actual salary will vary -based on
a candidate's location, qualifications, skills and experience. -
