Job Description:
The City of Tualatin is currently recruiting for a
Street/Sewer/Storm Technician I to work in our Street/Sewer/Storm
Division. The successful candidate will be able to effect a
positive impact to the livability of our beautiful city by ensuring
the City's vital infrastructure is kept in optimal working

An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of
the following: (these examples do not necessarily include all of
the tasks the employee may be expected to perform.)
As a member of a crew, or individually, performs work related to
the maintenance, operation, and repair of the City?s sewer,
stormwater, and roadway systems. This includes preventative
maintenance and reactionary repair and response to issues affecting
infrastructure.
As a member of a crew, or individually, participates in road
repair, setting forms for curbs and gutters, unloading and
spreading street surfacing materials, and related tasks.
Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment as part of daily work.
Drives vehicles and equipment that require a CDL. Completes CDL
pre-trip inspections and follows all other protocol associated with
the safe and correct operation of CDL vehicles and equipment.
Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
Cleans storm and sanitary sewer lines, manholes, and catch basins.
This includes determining appropriate positioning of truck along
with the correct equipment and method of cleaning to implement.
Operates truck to dump contents of storage tank at City Operation?s
decant facility. Maintain and clean decant facility on regular
basis.
Training and experience in confined space entry procedures. Ability
to safely perform work in confined space when necessary.
Identifies, troubleshoots, and repairs, if necessary, deficiencies
within the City?s sewer, stormwater, or street systems. This
includes tasks such as: catch basin repair, storm and sewer line
repair, traffic signs, street markings, and asphalt. Ability to
exercise individual decision making for minor repairs.
Carries out routine inspections of City roadways, recording
deficiencies and providing collected data to Supervisor for
analysis.
Is knowledgeable in and follows traffic control procedures and
traffic sign regulation requirements. Sets up and operates traffic
area work zones in a correct and safe manner.
Properly uses safety equipment and follows safe operating
procedures related to assigned work, including the handling of
hazardous materials.
Corresponds with the public to address customer service issues and
needs. Professionally responds to citizen requests and complaints,
performs inspections and provides updates as appropriate
Able to proficiently use computer software related to position.
Responds when needed to emergency events that affect the City of
Tualatin. This includes events that impact the normal operations of
the City as it relates to the street, stormwater, and sewer
systems. Operates equipment related to snow and ice removal.
Performs manual labor such as cleaning sediment from water quality
facilities, installing and maintaining street signs, removing
obstacles and debris from roadway and adjacent areas, and
hand-loading and unloading all types of material.
Drives to job sites, city facilities, vendors, training programs,
and meetings as necessary.
SUPERVISION: Works under the supervision of the Division Manager
and may receive direction from a Street/Storm/Sewer Technician II
or III. May perform lead work of seasonal or part-time staff and
CE2 students. Supervision of other employees is not a
responsibility of this position.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as
safety rules, as-builts/blueprints, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
Computer Skills: Ability to proficiently utilize Microsoft office,
NexGen for asset management, and/or other software related to job
functions. Working knowledge of data entry with laptop or hand held
device. Knowledge surrounding use of City?s GIS applications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of, or the
ability to secure the possession of within six months include the
following:
Technical Skills and Abilities: Ability to follow oral and written
instruction. Ability to perform strenuous, manual tasks and to
withstand exposure to variable weather conditions. Ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with other
employees and the general public. Ability to perform tasks in a
safe and efficient manner.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience in or general knowledge of
general maintenance and construction work, and sufficient education
to ensure the ability to read and write.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly
exposed to loud noise, excessive moisture, dust, fumes, heat/fire;
frequently exposed to slippery surfaces, vibration, uneven
surfaces, poor visibility/low lighting; occasionally exposed to
confined spaces, working at heights, and chemicals.
