Face to Face/Online/Livestreamed for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
Winter term begins January 5, 2026 Pay is dependent upon individual

Winter Term Offering GS 106 Physical Science (Geology) (4
credits/66 clock hours): Covers minerals, rocks, volcanism,
earthquakes, plate tectonics, erosion and deposition by wind,
glaciers and streams, weathering, fossils and geologic history.
Includes weekly lab. Other Possible Offerings: G184 Global Climate
Change (4 credits/66 clock hours): Covers characteristics of
Earth's climate system. Includes the atmosphere, ocean, biosphere,
and solid Earth as well as past, present, and future climate change
and future mitigation and adaptation efforts. Includes a weekly
lab. G201 Earth Materials and Tectonics (4 credits/66 clock hours):
Introduces physical geology which deals with minerals, rocks,
internal structure of the earth, and plate tectonics. Includes a
weekly lab. G202 Earth Surface Processes (4 credits/66 clock
hours): Introduces physical geology which deals with mass wasting,
streams, glaciers, deserts, beaches, groundwater, and use of
topographic maps. Includes a weekly lab. The above are courses to
be potentially taught on an as needed basis. Other courses based on
enrollment needs may also be offered if the successful candidate is
qualified. Duties and Responsibilities Teaching and Student
Success: Instruct students using approved course outcome guides and
accurate syllabi. Prepare instructional materials as needed. Meet
all assigned classes. Apply the colleges values for teaching and
learning. Facilitate learning that applies to students' academic
and career goals. Meet the curricular needs of students at various
learning levels. Encourage mutual responsibility for a supportive
learning environment. Provide effective teaching strategies in an
environment that encourages student and instructor interaction.
Actively engage students in the learning process. Encourage
creative and critical thinking. Evaluate and grade student progress
and systematically assess the program using meaningful indicators
to assure currency, improve teaching and learning strategies, and
achieve stated student learning outcomes for all students,
including underrepresented students and first-generation college
students. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment,
attendance, and scholastic progress. Assess the achievement of
student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional
level. Professional Responsibilities Work collaboratively with
colleagues and community partners. Interact with students, staff,
and administration in a professional manner. Assure effective
two-way communication at all levels of responsibility. Engage in a
reasonable amount of student contact outside of instruction to
respond to questions and to resolve course-related problems.
Complete required college trainings. Additionally, Part-time
faculty are invited and encouraged to participate in professional
development and other institutional work (such as attending
department meetings, engaging in committee work, and advancing
shared governance). Compliance Comply with published College
Policies and Procedures. Maintain a safe learning and working
environment by following all laws, policies and procedures
established by the College and through state and federal oversight
(such as OSHA and Title IX). Maintain College safety standards in
work areas; ensure that students are trained in good safety
practices; and make reasonable efforts to ensure that students
follow good safety practices. Other duties as needed: Use of media
aids, the library, and other resources, as applicable. The list of

Supervisory Responsibility This position does not have any
supervisory responsibility but may lead the work of Student,
Volunteer, and/or Temporary Staff assigned to the area. Leading
Work includes: Train and orient new hires in position tasks.
Provide instructions on work tasks. Offer guidance, encouragement,
and answer questions to ensure work tasks are completed
efficiently. Requirements Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree (or higher) in the Geology OR a Master’s degree (or
higher) in a related area plus 30 quarter hours of graduate credit
in the subject area. Subject Area degrees includes but are not
limited to: Geology Related Area degrees include but are not
limited to: Geophysics Geosciences Earth Science Earth Systems
Science Geochemistry Geomorphology Planetary Science Paleontology
Physical Geography Environmental Science Science Teaching For
related area degrees transcripts must be reviewed to document a
minimum of 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the area of earth
science. Demonstrated Competency Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree
in the subject area AND at least 3 years of demonstrable competence
gained through any combination of research, teaching, and/or
professional work experience. OR Bachelor’s degree in a related
area AND at least 5 years of demonstrable competence gained through
any combination of research, teaching, and/or professional work
experience. Working Environment & Physical Requirements While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is: Frequently
required to sit, see and talk or hear. Often required to have
mobility to move between offices, classrooms, and floors. Use hands
to finger, handle or operate computers, objects, tools or controls.
Reach with hands and arms. Light physical exertion with occasional,
bending, stooping, pulling, and moderate lifting. Occasionally lift
and/or move up to 25 pounds and have the ability to carry equipment
and tools of moderate weight, using arms and hands. Specific vision
and hearing abilities required by this job include close vision and
the ability to adjust focus, and complete and maintain various
types of records. Ability to hear the conversational voice and
effectively communicate responses. Work occurs in an office
environment with potential for interruptions and background noise.
Assignment will include presence at all primary OCCC locations and
may include evening and weekend work. Travel between College sites
and other locations will be required. Occasional travel and
overnight stays outside of Lincoln County may be required for
training and other purposes. The use of tobacco and smoke-emitting
materials and devices including electronic cigarettes, is
prohibited on all of the college’s campuses, including OCCC’s
