This job posting will remain "Open Until Filled." This is a REGULAR position, budgeted to work 8 hours/day, year-round and will begin immediately. Letter of interest addressed to Todd Rainwater, Director of Facilities and Operations; Current resume; Three (3) recent letters of reference; Job Purpose Statement: Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Facilities and Operations or designee, the Custodial Coordinator will coordinate district custodial services in order to promote efficient practices that result in clean and attractive facilities. The incumbent must have previous experience in the custodial field including familiarity with cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Incumbents must be able to provide leadership, training, and support for the custodial staff. Essential Job Functions : This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties: Conducts regular meetings for the purpose of disseminating information to custodians. Coordinates the scheduling of substitutes and/or rovers for the purpose of ensuring daily cleaning is completed. Fills in for head custodian absences when necessary. Assists in the development of cleaning routes and responsibilities. Recommends new and replacement equipment purchases to the Director of Facilities and Operations. Oversees the monthly custodial supply order process and ensures orders are complete and received in a timely manner. Assists in updating the district custodial handbook as needed. Monitors and inspects custodial work for the purpose of ensuring adherence to established district cleaning standards. Monitors safe working practices for the purpose of ensuring efficient practices and promoting proper working habits. Participates in the recruitment and selection of personnel for the purpose of making recommendations for hiring quality staff. Assists in the evaluation of custodial staff for the purpose of promoting professional growth and ensuring adherence to district standards. Prepares accident and injury reports as needed for the purpose of following district and legal procedures. Provides training and lead-direction for district custodial staff for the purpose of promoting safe and efficient practices. Repairs custodial equipment as needed for the purpose of ensuring employees have the necessary equipment to complete job requirements. Reports safety hazards and repair needs to appropriate personnel for the purpose of ensuring safe facilities. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Operations, researches and tests new custodial methods, supplies, and equipment for the purpose of improving custodial services. Works cooperatively with district administration and school staff. Complies with all district policies and applicable laws. Maintains regular and predictable attendance, is on time to work, and works the necessary number of hours and days required of the position. May be required to work beyond regular schedule in emergency situations. Carries out other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Operations or a district administrator. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Ability to perform basic math Possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to utilize modern office equipment, and utilize the suite of computer programs and systems to perform the requiements of this position Ability to read and explain a variety of manuals and write documents following prescribed formats Understand both written and oral instructions Working knowledge of current industry accepted methods, equipment, and materials used in custodial services Appropriate methods of cleaning and storing equipment Working knowledge of OSHA safety practices, procedures and regulations Flexibility to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances Problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, and consistently meets deadlines Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ideally in English and Spanish Establish and maintain effective relationships with others Desired Skills: Ability to perform multiple technical tasks Skills to analyze operating problems effectively and recommend courses of action Demonstrated skills to lead and train personnel Effectively coordinate schedules and assignments Skill and ability to identify safety, repair and/or replacement needs for facilities and grounds Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish highly desirable Minimum Qualifications: Must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse coworkers and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public school custodial services. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and resolve conflicts. Knowledge of laws, codes, rules, policies, and regulations relating to school facilities. Strong understanding and history of successful customer service and ability to establish and maintain effective relations with patrons and staff. Ability to delegate and to work both independently and cooperatively as a team. Possess good decision-making skills. Possess a valid drivers license. Van, Type 20, and CDL certifications recommended. Education Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college degree preferred Required testing: Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of: Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana, mind-altering substances or narcotic drugs such as hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbiturates, or any other illegal drug or controlled substance, except those federally recognized as legally prescribed by a physician and used as directed. Fingerprint-based nation-wide background clearance. Compensation: The 2025/26 school year hourly pay range for this classification is $25.50 to $28.98.
