The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
The Oregon National Primate Research Center is seeking a talented and experienced Financial Analyst who is collaborative, accountable, creative and agile. This position will work directly with Principal Investigators (PIs) to provide financial and budgetary support.
The ideal candidate will strive to develop subject matter expertise, will be highly detailed-oriented and capable of analyzing data with creativity and innovation to effectively aid PIs in making informed decisions.
The primary role is working on varied phases of financial processes and analysis, including but not limited to: budget development, financial analysis, variance analysis, compliance, policy and procedures, financial transactions/reports, data queries, fiscal authority and general accounting

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • AND

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience

  • Depending upon the specific job duties, a position assigned to this classification may require the candidate to have 36 hours of accounting courses as described above, or an accounting degree, or demonstrate proficiency of accounting principles (e.g. GAAP)

  • Prior Academic Health Center or relevant financial specific experience performing analysis related to operational improvements and business cases

  • Proficient with use of PC including database and spreadsheet applications

  • Proficient with spreadsheet skills, including simple functions, formulas, and formatting

  • Experience with relational databases

  • Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis

  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature

  • Strong analytical skills and mathematical skills to gather, understand, and analyze the data needed to respond to customer inquiries

  • Experience preparing financial reports and projections, performing analysis of the data, identifying and resolving potential financial problems

  • Skill with querying and reporting in Oracle and/ or other ERP systems (such as Banner, SAP, etc).

  • Experience with MS Word and Excel. Be comfortable performing data entry and reporting tasks in these applications frequently and without guided instruction

  • Strong customer service skills and professional etiquette

  • Ability to independently track, plan, organize, execute and follow-up on tasks. Ability to complete tasks promptly and accurately

  • Ability to take initiative, work independently without formal instruction, problem-solve, prioritize tasks and pay close attention to detail

  • Ability to understand and interpret award agreements, federal guidance, and internal policies

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds as well as the ability to effectively diffuse upset or angry persons

  • Demonstrated excellent record of attendance, punctuality, and a stable work history

  • Ability to handle confidential data with discretion

  • Use judgment when obtaining and communicating confidential data

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Two years of financial analysis and reporting experience, including forecasting/ projecting

  • Two years of grant administration working directly with principal investigators/ project managers and their staff

  • Direct experience interacting with funding agencies and organizations to resolve pre-award and/ or post-award financial issues such as seeking clarifications regarding budget, terms and conditions, no-cost extensions, close-out, etc.

  • NIH grants experience preferred

  • Experience managing a portfolio of projects/ accounts

  • Cognos reporting experience

  • Experience administering and complying with federal grants and contracts; in both pre-award and post-award functions

  • Knowledge of federal Uniform Guidance (formerly circulars OMB A-21 and A-110)
